Because it is the right thing to do

I visited our farm family friends Andy Bryant and Holly Whitesides at Against the Grain Farm last week well in advance of our North Carolina governors “Stay at Home” order. On arriving, I noticed immediately a sign that had been scotch-taped to their front storm door.  I was not surprised that there would be a sign given our challenging times but this is the first farm of all those that we follow that even had a sign.  I complimented Holly on their farm’s proactivity by addressing the current pandemic challenges.  I asked her about her sources for the content and she pointed me to a couple of national examples.

I also asked her what changes the farm was planning in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  “We are planting more food than we did last year” ( a big surprise to me), and she said, “we do not want anyone to be hungry; did you see our blog post yesterday?”  I had already.

“For any members of our community who have lost their income and are food insecure, PLEASE reach out to us.”

Andy and Holly made this decision because it is the right thing to do.
