Lake Logan International Triathlon Unparalleled for Location

The Lake Logan International Triathlon preparation begins before sunrise.

The original triathlon at Lake Logan celebrates its 6th anniversary as part of the Lake Logan Multi Sport Festival.  The international distance race has quickly become one of the premier races in the Southeast, attracting athletes from across the country.

Lake Logan and the Lake Logan Episcopal Center may be the most beautiful triathlon venues in the country.  The swim in this pristine mountain lake has a unique course starting near the main docks but finishing under the highway bridge as the West Fork of the Pigeon River enters the lake.  The lollipop bike course is unusual for the mountains in that it is mostly flat and very fast and follows the Pigeon River on both sides after the confluence of the East Fork and West Fork as it courses down to Canton.   The run course is an out-and-back along a two-lane North Carolina Scenic Byway US215 along the river to the USFS Sunburst campground.  It has a 1-2% grade on the outbound leg, almost guaranteeing a negative split on the downhill inbound leg.

Over 5oo athletes participated in the Olympic marathon on Saturday; neraly 150 in the sprint triathlon on Sunday.
